Motorhomers touring coastal East Devon are in for a treat going forward, as two car parks in Exmouth are set to offer increased facilities, including a freshwater tap, as well as disposal points for grey water and chemical toilet waste.
The news comes as East Devon District Council agreed to the improvements following consultation with almost 1000 respondents, including residents, visitors and local businesses, some of whom had expressed concern about inappropriate grey-water disposal in the area.
The two car parks to receive upgrades are Maer Road (EX8 2DB), which will now offer the new facilities, and Queen’s Drive Echelon (EX8 2AY), which is set to get new parking bays to provide more space for overnight visitors.
The improvements will partly be paid for by an increase in the overnight charge to stay, which is due to rise from £11 to £20 per night. Payment is only via RingGo during the initial trial, and is limited to two nights; afterwards, visitors may not return to stay overnight for at least 72 hours. This will not affect motorhome parking during the day.
Both of the car parks are within easy reach of the many attractions of this area, including Exmouth’s popular two-mile stretch of sandy beach.
Of course, you may prefer pitching up at a campsite instead, in which case don’t miss our guide to the best motorhome sites in Devon, where we share the top sites in the region as voted for by our readers.
For something a bit different, you could also consider buying your own campsite – so long as you have £2.5m burning a hole in your pocket, that is. The Dartmoor-based Langstone Manor has gone up for sale for £2.5m, with the site a regular in our annual Top 100 Sites Guides.
