Bürstner to cease caravan production in favour of campervans and motorhomes

German manufacturer Bürstner is to cease caravan production at the end of this season, to focus instead on campervans and motorhomes.

The Erwin Hymer Group subsidiary, which produces campervans such as the Habiton HMX 6.0 (pictured above), which we named the best 2 berth campervan with a shower and toilet at our 2026 Awards, has not sold caravans in the UK since the start of this century. However, in recent years its caravans have continued to have a significant presence in the European market.

The company now says all caravan production will cease at the start of the 2027 season “until further notice”, although an extensive spare parts and customer service operation will remain.

It says the decision to stop caravan production was taken as part of its “Bürstner Reloaded” programme. This is designed to revise and reposition its offer to concentrate more on motorised leisure vehicle production.

Given that, it says it made more sense to use development and production resources that have previously been taken up with caravan production on motorised vehicle production instead, where it could really make the best use of its design competence and ability to innovate.

In its statement, it also pointed out that three of its sister EHG brands – Eriba, LMC and Dethleffs – will continue to make caravans.

Chief executive Hubert Brandl said, “Our decision is not a farewell to caravans forever, but rather the conscious focus of the Bürstner brand on the further development of the campervan and motorhome portfolio. Our customers can look forward to exciting innovations in the new model year.”

Bürstner is, of course, not the only EHG brand to have announced major restructuring this year. Earlier this year, Erwin Hymer UK announced that it was proposing to move all production of Elddis, Buccaneer and Xplore motorhomes and campervans to Europe. It has yet to say what will happen to its caravan production.

In other industry news, campervan manufacturer Camperking is aiming to do the NC500 completely off-grid.
