Like you, we at Practical Motorhome love campervans – they’re perfect for getting away on the spur of the moment, allowing you to explore wherever and whenever you like with complete ease.
But the fact that they’re converted from vans means that sometimes they can feel a little cramped inside, giving you less space to stretch out and relax at the end of a long day of adventures.
And that’s the reason why we’re so excited about the arrival of the new entry-level campervan model from luxury brand Malibu – the new relax offers a huge amount of space, style and practicality, for your best tours ever.
Bringing the outside in
The difference between the relax model and other campervans is clear as soon as you step inside – thanks to the huge, 91cm entrance area, it’s incredibly easy to get in and out. Sit inside with the door open and you’ll enjoy a truly widescreen view of the world outside.
And you’ll get the same sense of space inside, too, because of the incredible design of the coupé-style extension of the Fiat Ducato cab. This amazing feature – which can be seen on other Malibu vans – means that there’s a huge amount of room to enjoy when the cab seats are swivelled, creating an enormous lounge.
There’s brilliant storage overhead, too, with a series of smart handlefree cabinets that blend seamlessly into the roof.
Space and style throughout
Elsewhere in the relax, we know that keen chefs are going to adore the stunning kitchen. It may be compact, but there’s more than enough room for all the kit you need, thanks to the overhead units and roller-mounted drawers.
The 70-litre fridge, meanwhile, is placed at the front end of the unit, making it simple to access from anywhere inside – and it has a clever two-way opening door, too.
As for the washroom: like everywhere else in the relax, it’s spacious and beautifully fitted out. We love the anthracite-toned shower tray – the same as that in last year’s Malibu genius – which looks incredibly stylish. The tambour entrance door helps save space in the main living area, too.
Small in size, mighty in manoeuvrability
Of course, you’ll want somewhere comfortable to sleep – and the relax has you covered here, too. The pair of lengthways single beds are both more than two metres in length, so there’s plenty of room to stretch out; additional drawers and more under the bed help increase your storage opportunities, too.
You might expect a campervan with so much space to feel tricky to drive, but the relax is just 6.35m long, with a width of 2.05m. The result is that it’s easy to manoeuvre, whether you’re touring in city or country, and the 3.5-tonne MTPLM means you won’t need anything other than a standard driving licence.
Best of all, the relax starts at just £52,340 – and with three different equipment levels, including Active, Ambition and Exclusive, you can pick the perfect amount of kit for your needs.
